Where it began
A life of care
Gillian Crooks was born in February 1960 and began nursing at 18. For her whole working life, caring for patients was what she did, including working in operating theatres.
Theatre nursing asks for compassion and precision in equal measure: calm under pressure, meticulous attention to detail, and responsibility for people at their most vulnerable.

People who spend their lives looking after others are often the last to look after themselves. Vellumia is built on a simple belief: we all deserve to take time to care for ourselves, and feeling comfortable and confident in your own skin matters at every age.

Alongside a lifetime of caring for people, Gillian has a long interest in modern skincare, and peptides especially. Peptides are short chains of amino acids that skincare uses for specific jobs, and they have become one of the most talked-about ingredient families of recent years.

A personal message
From Gillian
For most of my life, caring for others has been at the heart of everything I've done.
I started nursing when I was just 18, and throughout my career, including my time working in operating theatres, I learned how much compassion, care and attention to detail really matter.
As I've grown older, I've come to appreciate something equally important: we all deserve to take time to care for ourselves.
That's what Vellumia means to me.
I wanted to create something that brings together my lifelong belief in caring for people with my interest in modern skincare.
With Vellumia, my hope is to make looking after your skin feel simple, enjoyable and something you genuinely look forward to every day.
Because no matter your age, you deserve to feel confident and comfortable in your own skin.
