Peptide science

The science behind the serum

Peptides are short chains of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. In skincare, specific peptides are chosen for specific jobs. Our Signature Facial Serum uses two of the most talked-about, GHK-Cu and SNAP-8, alongside hyaluronic acid for hydration.

How peptides work

Small molecules. Big conversations.

  1. Start here

    What is a peptide?

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Link a few of them together and you have a peptide: a short chain that skincare scientists choose for a specific job.

That's why there isn't one "peptide". Different chains have different roles.

  2. The copper peptide

    GHK-Cu

GHK is a chain of just three amino acids (glycine, histidine and lysine) with a natural affinity for copper. Together they form GHK-Cu, a peptide that also occurs naturally in the body and has been studied by scientists since the 1970s.

In skincare, GHK-Cu is used to help improve the look of firmness and overall skin quality.

Evidence: decades of laboratory research and a small number of studies on cosmetic products. Research on an ingredient isn't proof of results from our serum.

  3. The expression-line peptide

    SNAP-8

SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3) is a chain of eight amino acids, designed in the lab and developed with expression lines in mind: the lines that form where we smile, squint and frown.

In a daily serum, it's used to help soften their appearance. It's a cosmetic ingredient applied to the skin. It doesn't change how your face moves, and it isn't a substitute for any treatment.

Evidence: mainly the ingredient manufacturer's own laboratory and volunteer studies.

  4. The hydration essential

    Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a long, chain-like molecule found naturally in skin, known for attracting and holding on to water.

In a serum it helps skin feel hydrated and look plumper and smoother: the comfortable, well-hydrated base a peptide routine builds on.

Evidence: well established for surface hydration.

Illustrations show the idea behind each ingredient. They are not to scale and are not pictures of our formula. Laboratory research on an ingredient doesn't prove the results of any particular product.

Working together

Why hydration and peptides belong together

Well-hydrated skin feels more comfortable and looks plumper and smoother. Hyaluronic acid provides that foundation, so the peptides are part of a routine your skin enjoys every day. Two or three drops after cleansing, before moisturiser, is all it takes.

Honest skincare

What peptides can and can't do

Peptide serums are cosmetic products. They work on how your skin looks and feels, gradually and with consistent daily use. They don't replace medical or aesthetic treatments, and SNAP-8 is not an injectable or a substitute for one.

Daily SPF remains the single most important step for the long-term look of your skin.

Your questions

Peptides, answered

What is a peptide?

A short chain of amino acids. Skincare uses particular peptides for particular jobs, such as helping skin look firmer or helping lines look softer.

Is SNAP-8 an alternative to injections?

No. SNAP-8 is a cosmetic peptide applied to the skin's surface. It isn't an injection, doesn't work like one and won't give the same results. It is used to help soften the appearance of expression lines as part of a daily routine.

How long before I notice a difference?

Hydration can be felt soon after applying. Changes in how skin looks take consistent daily use over several weeks.

Can I use it with my other skincare?

Yes. Apply after cleansing and before moisturiser. If you use strong actives, many people prefer to use them at a different time of day. Introduce one new product at a time.

How often should I use it?

Once a day, after cleansing and before moisturiser.

A lifetime of care. A new generation of skincare.
